Happy Thanksgiving!

Update: Samantha saw the Pediatric Gastroenterologist today. It went well. Tomorrow morning we're headed off to San Jose again for a Barium swallow to view her upper GI. They want to check that everything is okay with her esophageal sphincter. If that is okay, then we'll move on the a food panel to see if she's allergic to something.

It's been a rough couple of weeks with Samantha. She got a cold on Halloween that turned into the worst bout of bronchitis ever. She's been out of school for a week and a half and will be out for at least one more week. Our doctor wanted her isolated for her own safety. She's happy, but driving me insane.

She misses her friends and they miss her very much. I'm hoping she gets to go back after Thanksgiving.

On Monday, we'll be going to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. Our thought (mine and two doctors) is that Samantha is aspirating into her lungs, which is causing the congestion and flare-ups. She's on an acid reducer, but still continues to aspirate by choking on her food or drink. It's a nasty cycle that will continue and prevents her from returning to school unless we can stop it. So we'll see what this new doctor has to say.

The poor girl is a good sport and completely unafraid of doctors, but should not be on mountains of medication every day.

Alyssa is well and happy. She's graduated from her high chair to a booster seat at the kitchen table. She's was so excited that she sat in the chair for hours the first day. Every time we attempted to get her out she cried and threw a fit. She's learning how to eat with a fork and spoon, but really doesn't have much patience for it. She figures if she squeaks enough someone will do it for her. Alyssa is talking some, but we're still working on the pleases and thank yous.

Al has started Team in Training and ran 8 miles today. That is his furthest yet. He's very dedicated to this, which is impressive. He has to get up early on Saturday mornings and he's out late on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but hasn't complained a bit. Today he's going to attempt his first ice bath to help relieve some of the pain in his legs. Should be interesting!

I'm just working and trying to keep my head on straight with Samantha's medical issues and her home with me. It's challenging and most days I'm on my last straw, but still surviving.

Happy Halloween

We survived a busy week. Samantha went to the pumpkin patch on Tuesday, had a Halloween Party at Tanya's on Wednesday and a school party on Friday, and trick-or-treating last night.

Tinker Bell was very excited about trick-or-treating last night. And our Duck finally got the hang of it near the end. Alyssa even said "trick or treat" about 15 feet from the last door. Then she proceeded to hand me her candy bag and sign "want to go to bed."

Not much else exciting going on at the Gonzalez household. Al is busy job hunting and has applied for no less than 5 jobs. As a last resort the Kelly Services folks are standing by ready to submit his name for employment in San Jose if it nears December without any prospects. Three of the five jobs are at universities, so the application process probably takes longer than at a normal corporation.

I've been busy with work, and Mom and I have started walking during my lunch hour. It's nice to have a break and get some exercise. My shins were even sore the first week--wow, I'm out of shape!
